Wood and environment

For Legnolandia, producing with low environmental impact means always choosing renewable raw material and using only clean energy.

Our wood is derived mainly from conifers from PEFC-certified forests in Friuli, a zero-mileage product that we treat with great care and respect so that it can generate maximum value at every stage of its life cycle. To process it, we use self-generated thermal and electrical energy, which allows us to meet the needs of our facilities, while significantly lowering emissions.

We follow the Circular Economy based on: use of sustainable raw materials, processing with renewable energy, extending the life cycle of products, reuse and recycling of materials at the end of life. We are committed to turning waste into value, reducing harmful emissions and making products that comply with CAM (Minimum Environmental Criteria).

Zero-kilometre raw material

The raw material we use is the most sustainable in the world: wood. Trees in their growth process store CO2 inside them and produce oxygen. At the end of their growth, with low energy consumption, the trees become wood products, guaranteeing the sustainability of the system. Our timber is predominantly obtained from PEFC-certified forests under controlled harvesting. This makes the difference compared to producers who use raw material transported by road from exotic countries, or use energy-intensive raw materials, such as plastic and metal, with the resulting air pollution and CO2 emissions.

The silver fir (Abies Alba) is a spontaneous plant with many merits: among conifers, it is the only species without resin pockets inside, its fibre is compact, resistant and allows easy penetration of preservative treatments. Legnolandia has made this essence the main element of our bio-constructions, especially wooden houses and large structures.

100% renewable energy

The thermal energy we consume in our production processes is derived from a modern biomass plant fuelled by wood from processing waste. The combustion of woody biomass closes a natural cycle that does not increase the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (greenhouse effect). This makes a difference to the use of fossil fuels, such as coal, gas or diesel, which release CO2 along with other pollutants such as nitrogen and sulphur oxides and fine dust.

We use electricity obtained from photovoltaic plants and hydroelectric power stations in our territory with a total reduction of harmful emissions; this makes the difference with those realities that, connected to a national network of fossil-fueled power stations, are objectively real sources of pollution.

Recyclability and reuse

In our production we use, almost entirely, recycled and recyclable materials such as recycled polyethylene from recovered bottles, recycled rubber and recycled metals. Components and assemblies are designed for debuilding and reuse of parts after the product life cycle.

Durable wood

Some wood species such as Larch and Robinia have a higher durability class, even when exposed to the most unfavourable environmental conditions. This wood does not need to be treated to be used outdoors, Legnolandia uses it for all installations with zero environmental impact.

BIO Paints

In the past, the paint industry took a big step towards sustainability through the introduction of water-based paints, but this is no longer enough! Water-based paints are in fact still largely produced with fossil bases. Legnolandia has now adopted a revolutionary technology to replace these fossil-based components with renewable materials, further reducing environmental impact without sacrificing performance.

To colour some of our products, we use organic paints made from plant-based raw materials (agro-food industry waste) that do not compete with human nutrition. This makes a big difference to those manufacturers who use synthetic paints and enamels with considerable harmful emissions. The ‘Decovery‘ quality label guarantees the sustainability of the paints used for the benefit of children and the planet.

Ecological protection

Legnolandia carries out special wood treatments using technologies that use ecological cycles and substances that respect safety regulations, the environment and people. Thanks to this, it offers the maximum guarantee of durability of wood, even when exposed to the most hostile atmospheric agents.
